I’m going to buy a car tomorrow, I need some advice..?

I am looking for a Toyota Corolla 05 and May 1 Honda Civic. My plan is to put about 4,000 down and not going to spend more than 10,000 in total. Lately I’ve been seeing some really good deals on GM TV Ive seen a Chevy Cobalt to 14000 and some 09 other cars for some great prices. My question is should I be 09 and pay a little more or adhere to the best cars in operation, such as Toyota and Honda? I am also looking for fuel efficient cars and a car that’s going to last long así.También are some tips you can give me to go shopping for new cars and usados.Gracias

If you buy the Cobalt at 14,000, expect it to be worth only $9000 or so, within two years.

    New cars plummet in value.

Even the Corolla and Civic you’re looking at, will be worth about 15-20% less, by the end of two years.

    So, ask yourself one thing.

What’s more important? Having a new car, or taking a substantial loss on your investment?

well if i was you i would looking into buying a new car. you are so much better off you can get a chevy cobalt for 12,000. you should also look at a kia spectra for about 11,000. those two cars are very nice get great mpg. and they will run for a very long time. i was never a fan of toyota or honda other brands make even a better car for less. i hope this helps you a little. also alot of brands are offering 0% fincing you should look into that it can save you alot of money.

Don’t rush into this purchase. Take your time. It’s a huge financial obligation. Be sure you are spending you money wisely.

My point of view is to always buy used because they are a better value. BUt in today’s market, with new car sales stalled the price of used cars has risen because demand has increased.

New car dealers are doing everything they can to sell new products. If you can get the price difference between new and used to within a few thousand dollars I think you’d be better off buying new. You get a full warranty and you get better finance options.

But to comment on your post I would not limit your new car search to Toyota and Honda. You’d be doing yourself a huge dis-service by not considering GM and Ford in your new car search. The cars they build and the prices they offer are very attractive. Consider the Focus, Fusion, Aveo, Cobalt and Malibu. Compare price and value and finance options.

Don’t assume that Toyota and Honda are “better running”, more fuel efficient and last longer cars. That is just not a true statement. it is based on perception not facts.

if you want anything stay AWAY from chevy. they’re worthless and nobody should buy one unless they want something with nothing but problems. if you want something that’s fuel efficient and will last you a lifetime get a DODGE diesel pickup. and when you see something that’s 10000-12000 with 150000-200000 miles on it don’t throw a fit. them trucks will last at least 500000 before needing to be rebuilt just stay away from anything over 2005.5 then you get into the emissions stuff and fuel economy drops off by a mile or 2 per gallon. but the older ones are still getting 22mpg highway and 18-19 city. and you’re making 350 horse and 650ft.lbs.tq which is more than enough to pull something if you have to and well a dodge diesel that’s a 4×4 will get through anything snow, mud, water over 2 1/2-3ft deep and if you insist on a car get a toyota or honda. i hate foreign vehicles but they do make better cars than americans but stay away from chevy at all costs they’re worthless. and when looking for one make sure the rotors aren’t warped when you drive it i’m sure you know what i’m talking about the grab then let off grab and then let off when you’ve got your foot on the pedal, pop the hood and look for any oil residue check the plug wires make sure it doesn’t squeek when you go over a bump which could mean a suspension problem or something needs to be greased. check the rubber and see how much tread is left. make sure all the power plug ins work fine and the cigarette lighter especially if you smoke i hate my moms explorer because i always have to get my lighter out of my pocket. but anyway just make sure everything seems mechanically sound.

GM has been making very low quality vehicles these past few years. Do not buy a bran new car. My 2002 sunfire coupe was built better than my 07 pontiac g6 sedan.
