Go to Jermanes Luau, it is Awesome and tons of fun, also visit the Internatioinal market place, and for a better prices on suvinors go to the local swap meet, they sell everything there, just remember you are not allowed to bring back any live plants with you. However you can order some delicious Pineapple and Pappya from Pineapple Hawaii. There number is listed in the local phone book, they will deliver your fruit to the airport for taking boxes of fruit home with you. Also take home some chocolate machidamia nuts with you. Go to the Sheraton Hotel for their buffet dinner, you sit looking out at the Ocean it is beautiful and breath taking. Also visit the Dole Pineapple factory, and the candy making factory. There are many brochures you can pick at your hotel, and also be sure to eat plate lunch it is very delicious, some of the BEST food you will ever eat. Have fun and enjoy your Hawaiian Vacation!
Pearl Harbor is not far from there, but you have to go really early in the morning to get tickets before they are sold out. Also, there is the USS Arizona Museum in Honolulu.
Check out North Shore, that is were are the big surf movies are filmed.
Right near your hotel is a huge shopping area, I forgot what it is called, but it is like an outside bazaar type, I think it is the international market place. It is awesome. There are also places to eat there. Hanauma Bay is a must, it is OK if you cant swim (I can’t) but you can go snorkeling in the reefs, not very deep at all.
On the Waikiki beach they offer surf lessons.
Just blocks from your hotel (more inland) is a street lined with bars and nightlife. But I think your hotel has a pretty sweet bar over looking the beach, if not walk the beach, you’ll find one.
The Hilton/Sheraton have great shops and places to eat, they are along the beach too.
Friday night the Hilton has a free hula show followed by fire works on the beach… crazy romantic!
Just a few miles from Waikiki is Honolulu, there is a massive mall there, Ala Moana Shopping Center.
There is also a shopping center overlooking the harbor not far from there. Upstairs is a lot of really nice places to eat, and most have outside areas where you can look out at the Harbor, it is beautiful!
I love Hawaii, I’m going back myself in October! This question just got me excited!
Here is a small but reliable tour agent located not too far away from your hotel.
http://www.affordabletours.net
You can book reservations now but they are easy enough to get to once you’re there.
They have good prices, one of them you should take is their less expensive Circle Island tour @ $22.00 that last all day long and takes you to many of the major attractions. Study their site for other things to do and also look at
http://www.hawaiiactivityworld.com/oahu/?source=thisweek
who has booklets in every hotel lobby, at newsstands up and down Kuhio and Kalakaua, they are full of coupons, including some early bird specials which are a good value.
Lots of very reasonable eateries exist, go over to the Ala Moana Shopping center by bus or over to Ward’s but you can also get carried away by eating at the higher end hotels. Down near the International Market, there’s dozens of small food stands incorporated into a very large area, ethnic foods in every language, cheap, noisy, busy, but also a good place to start up a conversation.
Oahu is simply chock full of great restaurants at very reasonable prices, but getting to them is the key. Don’t be afraid to use the bus, it is reasonable, gets you anywhere on the Island and always gets you back home again.
What island are you staying on? My wife and I honeymooned on Oahu and Maui in 2002 and we went back in 2005.
Oahu is a really cool island. There are many different climates depending on what side of the island you are on. Waikiki is a major city that has everything you need. You can surf or boogieboard, hike Diamondhead (if you do wear comfy shoes and bring lots of water), rent a jeep and take a ride around the island or just sit at the pool. Of course Pearl Harbor is located on Oahu, that is a half day activity if you plan it right there is a huge flea market at Aloha Stadium which is situated within walking distance from Pearl Harbor. BTW if you or your hubby are football fans check out a University of Hawaii football game, there is nothing like watching a football game in a tropical climate.
I recommend going to the Polynesian Cultural Center http://www.polynesia.com/ . You have can take a bus, and it is an all day activity. It takes you through the various South Pacific Cultures. At the end of the day you have a Luau and a Polynesian Show. As far as resturants, there is everything on Oahu. There is a spinning resturant which is romantic (I cant remember the name) but the food is not the best. I recommend Ruths Chris Steakhouse, it is not unique to Hawaii but it is a nice restaurant that should run you between $100-$300 depending on how much you drink and eat (everything is ala carte). For a fun afternoon or night there is a Dave and Busters you can eat, drink and play games. Waikiki probably has the most shopping, but they primarily cater to the large Japanese population. You can check out the International Marketplace which is the place to go for souveniers.
Maui is a gorgeous island. We stayed at the Westin Kannapali which is located near Lahaina which has shopping and resturants. If you are adventrous you can drive up to Haliakala at 4 in the morning and watch the sunrise. I have never done it, but from what I hear it is amazing. Maui is also the island to get out and play a round of gold.
My wife has been to Kauai and she says it is extremely boring and there is not much to do at all.
The Brunch at Orchids, located at the Halekulani Hotel was nice. I did Germaine’s Luau, the food was good. Germaine’s has a bus that meets in a central location to bring you to and from the Luau. We went to a magic show, which I am pretty sure was at the Outrigger. There are several local shops along the Waikiki beach. There is also an international market place. And don’t underestimate the ABC store for cheap souvenirs! You will see a million ABC stores, but the are all different. You can also ride ‘The Bus’ to get to the mall and other places. It is $2 per person each way.
Good question,
Great choice for a wedding anniversary! You have a lot of questions and I have put a lot of answers together for a few other people but know there will be some good stuff in here for you too!
This post ranges from Hiking,Hotels,Waterfalls all the way to clubs and were to get discount coupons. I hope this helps you out! Have a great trip!
I love hiking Hawaii and this site is by far the most detailed. Manoa falls is one of my favorite falls to hike to and although not recommended the hike up past the first falls to the second, third and beyond are amazing. Many people go around the fence and up the banyan roots to the second falls and swim up above. I’m guilty of that too, but it is absolutely amazing and you can dive off the rocks into the water. This link http://www.hawaiitrails.org/ will take you to a site that explains any trail on all the islands and is an absolute MUST see if you’re going to do any hiking on the island. The rest of this post is stuff I put together for someone else and has other helpful or useful info for travelers to Hawaii. Def go and check that site out…you won’t be disappointed. Hope this helps you out.
I am a nature nut and Hawaii is a great place to enjoy our beautiful planet! I put this together earlier but wanted to share it with you because there are some things here that will help you out! Hawaii is definitely worth it! I just can’t get enough of that place! I have been 6 times and I have found enough on Oahu to do that I haven’t even ventured out to the other islands yet! Here are some things in Waikiki and around the island to do; Dukes is def cool and right on the beach, and if you want to dance you can head over to Scruples. If you like to drink then do it in your room cause it is way way to expensive at the clubs. I suggest going to one of the 50+ ABC stores and grabbing your alcohol there for much cheaper! There is a ton of eating places down on the strip but the real Hawaii is out of town. Take the bus or drive up to manoa valley and experience the rainforest and a natural waterfall! Take a trip to the north shore and go to Waimaia Valley and see some of the most spectacular fauna anywhere! If you adventurous hike along the ridges and see paradise from 4000 feet! I did that and loved every second of it..Ok well it was more like 8 hours of it but anyway..lol. This link will take you to a site with very detailed info on hiking trails http://www.hawaiitrails.org/ Diving and snorkeling are pretty awesome too! Hanuama bay is touristy and with good reason. You are guaranteed to see tons of fish and have a nice afternoon at a beautiful beach! Diving can be done just off shore and runs around 100 bucks for 2 tanks and you don’t need to be experienced. Not far out of town you can jet ski or parasail. Wouldn’t really bother with the jet skiing because they have too many rules in Hawaii but the parasailing is something you should at least try once. After that it gets kind of boring. In town the international market place is def cool and worth strolling through…a tip..go to all the kiosks and then go back and don’t be afraid to barter..that’s how it works there! On the weekend a really cool thing to do it go to aloha stadium for a huge flea market!!! I mean huge the tents go all around the stadium and everything you find for souvenirs in Waikiki you will find there for way I mean way cheaper!! Oh one last thing, you have to go to a Luau and the Paradise Cove Luau is the best. oh crap…just thought of something else that will help you out. Go to http://www.Entertaiment.com and buy the book for Hawaii and it will give you so many discount coupons it will pay for it self right away. I did and it worked great. I just found another site that has coupons that you can print off the web so check this one out too http://www.ecouponshawaii.com/…………. Don’t forget that part..really do it and you won’t be sorry. Many 2-1 coupons on dinners in the Entertainment Book. Waikiki is is really expensive so anytime you can save money it’s a good thing. I have been to Hawaii 6 times now and would love to live there. I hope you make it because you won’t forget it! Aloha!

Makiki Heights drive – Tourists don’t find this gem and it’s amazing! MUST SEE. Check your map to get to Makiki Heights. Great views of the island
Restaurants: There are tons of restaurants in Waikiki. If you are young and like to drink then drink b/4 you go out! The Pacific Beach Hotel has drink specials all week long and there a good deal. There are Mai Tai specials all over but DIXIES has the screamin Mai TAi which comes in a 32 oz glass and is about 6 bucks!!! Good Eats there too! For cheaper eats go outside of town over towards the Kaneohe side. If you do want to eat in Waikiki then I would highly recommend that you go to http://www.entertainment.com and buy the book for Hawaii. This coupon book will save you a ton on the island! Seriously every time I go I get the book and use all the 2-1 deals in it! Check ebay for it too sometimes you can get it dirt cheap!
Hotels; Best hotel for the money is the Ocean Resort Hotel on the east end of the strip. Very close to the beach, decent rooms, service is good and you will pay under a 100 a night for most rooms and the parking is much cheaper than the other hotels. Most parking isn’t included in the cost of your hotel and can be as high as 17$ per day to park. At the Ocean Resort they have limited parking but you can park across the street for 5$/day!
