Car accident: repair shop will not replace parts?

I had an accident with my Honda Accord. The damage is limited to the front bumper, tip of the hood and right fender. The workshop will replace the bumper. but said he will repair the hood and right fender. I am asking that all parties should be replaced, but his argument is best left to the parties, as they have matching VIN with the car and the damage is not extensive. Does it really make sense? since body parts are relatively cheap for the defense at least.

Matching numbers is really only important in resale. If your insurance company authorizes the repairs, they should replace. If you are paying out of pocket, it’s your call.

Get a second (and third?) opinion and estimate.

yes that makes sence – are you paying for the repairs? if you are then there shouldnt be a problem if someone else is paying for the parts then you might be limited to what their ins. company pays for!

you dont want bondo on your car…….. they make more money fixing the damage than replacing with new parts

I had an accident and the parts that the body shop replace my damaged ones with (with my insistance only) Were junk. they rusted quickly and leaked. They told me I was better off just to fix the damage but I didn’t want to listen. I wish now that I would have. I hope this helps.

if it is your money and your car it is your decision.
If your insurance company is paying they will take the cheap route and you will have to pay the difference between the 2 costs.

I would go to another shop. It seams to me that if you are paying the bill they should do whatever you ask. After all, you are paying for their labor, not their opinion.

i was in an accident with my car too. I have a honda accord ’99.
the first place i went to didn’t want to replace the patrs either. they wanted to fix them. so i went some where else and they replaced the parts for me. I needed a hood, bumper, fender, light, and paint job. The guys told me that it is easier to just replace the parts than it is to fix them anyway. some places like to fix them so they can charge the insurance co. or you more money in labor. plus it is also safer to just get new parts because metal and plastic can only be bent so much before it breaks. the shop guys said that the out side of a car is like a paper clip you can bend it so many times before it breaks. so just shop around till you find some one that will replace your parts. don’t go to the Honda dealership, they’ll charge you more than the body shops. the day after i got my car back from repair a brought it to the dealer ship to get an oil change i told them that the car was in an accident and they were amazed that the couldn’t even tell.
ps the car has a vin # not the parts on it. you can get 15 new hoods and your vin would never change. and make sure you get honda accord patrs for your year car.

i own a shop, and i can see there point in one way on this if the damage is real light ,and they can repair it,,and make like new again id say there right,,but if you think the damage is bad enough to need a new fender,,then i think id ask for one,,usually there right when they make a decision on these things,,so id just wait and see how it turns out,,you don’t have to accept it if it doesn’t look good, that’s the good part of it,,it has to suit you so just wait and see,,good luck hope this help,s
