buying a car from another state issues?

I live in Oregon and want a used car that is located near Washington, Seattle (much cheaper price and low mileage). is from a trusted dealer. Oregon has no sales tax, but Washington does. would have to pay the tax? What issues and fees must be weary of when buying from out of state? I could factor in additional fees when negotiating the price of the vehicle? thanks for the tips

When you buy a car in a different state, you don’t pay taxes on that car in that state, but in the state you live in.

I live in Alabama. We have a state sales tax, and Tennessee doesn’t. If I buy a car in Tennessee, I only pay taxes for it here, not in Tennessee.

You actually may end up saving money. Just tell the dealer up front that you live in a different state. Just make sure they don’t up the asking price on you just because you aren’t paying taxes through them.

You pay applicable taxes based on where the vehicle is garaged. So if you live in Oregon, you’ll pay any taxes or fees that Oregon charges. Basically, you will have to come to an agreement on the sale price of the vehicle with the dealership. They need to disclose any fees BEFORE you start signing paperwork.

You might expect to encounter a temporary tag fee (generally around $20-$30), and maybe a documentation fee (varies from state to state and most often is not required by law).
