Go to http://www.kbb.com and look up the value of the car when it’s being sold by a personal seller. That’ll give you a decent go-by so you know you’re not getting ripped off too bad.

Make sure you drive the car before you agree to anything. Check to see if he has the title and check to see if there is a lien on the car. Some states will have a lien release if the loan has been paid off. So if he currently has a lien on the car you will need to get both the title and the lien release before the car is truly yours.

You can always check to see if the car has a bad history by going to http://www.carfax.com but I’m not sure if they will provide the information free of charge but you can check.

    Good luck!

You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.enacre.net
